Techniques
- 6 whole apples
Grate six apples, unpeeled, into a bowl; stop before reaching the core so no seeds go in.
- 1 whole lemon
- cinnamon
- cornstarch
- white sugar
- light brown sugar
Squeeze in the juice of one lemon. Add a touch of cinnamon, a very small touch of cornstarch, white sugar and light brown sugar; mix thoroughly and evenly.
Seasoning the apple filling
- 2 tbsp butter
Generously butter a baking dish, about a couple tablespoons. Spread the apple mixture in it evenly.

- rolled oats
- grape nuts
- all purpose flour
- white and brown sugar
- salt
- 1 stick melted butter
For the topping, combine rolled oats, Grape-Nuts, all purpose flour, white and brown sugar, a pinch of salt and a stick of melted butter; mix slowly until every oat and Grape-Nut is coated.
Mixing the oat and Grape-Nuts topping
Spoon the topping evenly over the apples and leave it on top rather than poking it down, so it bakes crispier.
Bake in the center of a 375 degree oven about an hour, until the filling has firmed up and the top is golden brown and crisp.
- vanilla ice cream
- sprigament
Let cool until just barely warm; serve with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream and garnish.
