  • 1 whole small round watermelon
Trim off the bottom of the watermelon so it stands steady while carving; save the disc for the legs.
Make two half-moon slices in the top half so a quarter of the melon comes away.
Empty the inside with a spoon or melon baller (cuillere parisienne); save the watermelon balls for the fruit salad.
Variation: for adults, blend the watermelon flesh with strawberries, lime and tequila.
From the removed piece, cut a slice for the tongue and divide the larger portion in two; remove the flesh and shape two feet. Adjust the tongue's size and shape.
Cut the bottom disc in half for the legs; cut two half-moons with a cookie cutter for the eyeballs.
  • fruit salad
  • grapes or blueberries
Assemble the legs, feet and eyes, using grapes or blueberries for the eyes; fill the mouth with fruit salad.
